FAYETTEVILLE, NC (July 5, 2018) – What happened to the summer? It seems like only yesterday that students heard that final bell rang to begin their break. Fast forward and it's almost time to begin another school year! The Back-to-School Teen Explosion Conference provides an opportunity, in advance, for teens to get mentally ready for school and help ease the transition from summer to the new school year.
On August 4, 2018 at the Cliffdale Recreation Center (10:00am-2:00pm) local teens will have an opportunity to convene with their peers to learn about school success, college readiness, career awareness and social justice. Dr. Teresa Thompson-Pinckney, founder and Board Chair of the event said, “There is a natural level of anxiety and fear of the unknown that our teens experience as they prepare to return to school. From fitting in, unsureness about the difficulty of classes, being liked and managing daily life are only a few things that we as adults should take into consideration about our youth. The Back-to-School Teen Explosion Conference© provides an opportunity for teens to have conversations that matter in a teen friendly, hospitable space.”
Admission cost to attend the Back-to-School Teen Explosion Conference© is $20, however there are discounts for military connected youth, multiple family members and scholarships for those who cannot afford the admission fee. Organizations that serve youth are welcome to bring groups of students at a discounted rate as well.
The conference is still accepting donations of door prizes (electronics, services, etc.), school supplies, give-a-ways for bags (coupons, logo items, etc.), educational materials, advertisement opportunities, snacks, etc. In addition, donations to support scholarships to help teens who cannot afford to pay are welcome. Local contributions to this event ensures that we communicate to our teens that academics are important by offering experience that is tests their abilities, boost their confidence, and challenge their skills in a dynamic, hands-on, and fun atmosphere,” says Dr. Thompson-Pinckney.
